Jakarta tests show a 29-year-old Indonesian woman who died on Wednesday night in a Jakarta hospital had contracted avian flu, an official said yesterday.
However the result had yet to be confirmed by a World Health Organization (WHO) affiliated laboratory.
The woman living in the East Jakarta suburb of Cipayong, died at about 10pm on Wednesday, four days after being admitted to Sulianto Saroso Hospital on January 8.
If confirmed, the case would bring a total of 12 known victims from the H5N1 strain of avian influenza in Indonesia. -dpa
